Abstract
The phase behavior of blends of tetramethyl bisphenol-A polyarylate (TMPAR) with poly(styrene-co-acrylonitrile)(SAN), was examined by differential scanning calorimetry. TMPAr was found to be completely miscible with SAN having 4∼15wt% acrylonitrile(AN). These phenomena were ascribed to the enhanced hydrophobicity of TMPAr compared with bisphenol-A polyarylate(PAr) and to the intramolecular repulsion effect between styrene and AN units in SAN copolymers.

Tetramethyl bisphenol-A polyarylate(TMPAr)와 poly(styrene-co-acrylonitrile) (SAN) 블렌드계의 상거동을 시차 열량 주사기를 이용하여 조사하였다. TMPAr은 acrylonitrile(AN) 함량이 4∼15wt% 범위의 SAN과 완전한 상용성을 보였다. 이러한 현상은 bisphenol-A polyarylate(PAr)에 비해 TMPAr의 증가된 소수성과 SAN 내의 styrene과 AN unit 간의 분자내 반발 효과에 기인한 것으로 생각된다.
