As a membrane material, namely, poly-T-benzyl-L-cysteine(PBC) and poly-S-carbobenzoxy-L-cysteine (PCBC) were synthesized by modifying Poly-L-cysteine(PC). Thin film composite membranes of PC, PBC and PCBC were prepared by casting dilute solutions of polymer on aromatic copoly(amide-ester) (PA) support, and their permeability characteristics to gaseous oxygen and dissolved oxygen in water were measured. The permeability coefficients of gaseous oxygen in gas/gas system (P
g) and dissolved oxygen in water/water system (P
w), P
w/P
g, and the selectivity of oxygen to nitrogen (P
O2/P
N2) depend on the properties of the side chains of the coated polymers. Both P
g and P
w increase with increasing length of the side chains, in the order of PC < PBC < PCBC. However, P
O2/P
N2 and P
w/P
g increase in the order of PCBC < PBC < PC.
O2)는 gas/gas, water/water system 모두 PC
