Abstract
Effects of hydrogen on the slurry polymerization of propylene for two types of modified Ziegler-Natta catalyst were investigated. The average polymerization rate increased showing a maximum value and then decreased with increase in the pressure of hydrogen. As hydrogen pressure increased, the average molecular weight decreased significantly, and the isotactic index as well as the melting point decreased, while the crystallization temperature rose. The molecular weight distribution narrowed with increasing hydrogen pressure, and this tendency was more pronounced for the catalyst of higher overall activation energy.
