Abstract
The polymers, polyazomethine (Ⅳ), (V) and (Ⅵ) were prepared by the condensation of terephthaldialdehyde with p-phenylene diamine, benzidine and p,p''-diamino-diphenylene ether in DMSO respectively. IR absorption spectroscopy was used to elucidate the structure of polymers. The characteristic peak of polyazomethine, carbon-nitrogen double bond was found to absorb at 1.620 cm-1. It was insoluble in common orgainc solvents and only slightly soluble in formic acid. Electrical conductivites of polyazomethines measured by a 4-point probe technique were comparable to that of polyacetylene, poly(p-phenylene)(PPP) and polyazine. Polyazomethine doped with I2 showed higher electrical conductivity than polyazomethine doped with Br2.

Polyazomethin(PAM)(Ⅳ),(V) 및 (Ⅵ)을 terephthaldialdehyde와 p-phenylenediamine, benzidine 그리고 p,p''-diaminodiphenylether를 dimethylsulfoxide(DMSO) 하에서 중축합하여 얻었다. PAM(Ⅳ),(V) 및 (Ⅵ)의 IR spectra 분석결과 1620cm-1에서 azomethine의 특성 peak인 -C=N-기 즉 Schiff base 구조를 확인하였다. 이 중합물은 유기용매에 불용이었고 formic acid에 약간 용해하였다. 전기전도도는 4-point probe technique로 측정하였으며 polyacetylene, poly-(p-phenylene), polyazine 그리고 PAM(I), (Ⅱ), (Ⅲ)과 비교하였다. I2로 dope한 PAM는 Br2로 dope한 PAM보다 전기전도도가 높게 나타났다.
