Abstract
α-(2-Carboxyethyl)benzoin alkyl ethers(BMEAA) were prepared by the addition of ethyl acrylate to benzoin alky1 ethers (BAE) and subsequent hydrolysis of ester groups. From the photopolymerization study of these benzoin derivatives, it was found that the bulkier the alkyl group, the lower the photoinitiating effciency. There was little difference in photoinitiation efficiency between the photoinitiators BMEAA and BME. α-(2-Carboxyethy1) benzoin methy1 ether(BMEAA) was reacted with the glycidyl group of poly(methyl methacrylate-co-glycidy1 methacrylate) (GM Polymer) to give the photopolymer containing the photoinitiator BMEAA. The polymeric photoinitiator thus formed was compared with the monomeric photoinitiator on their photoinitiating reaction in the polymerization of styrene. The polymeric photoinitiator showed lower efficiency than the monomeric one. The photocrosslinking efficiency was enhanced markedly by introducing BMEAA photoinitiator and the photosensitive acryloyl group to GM polymer simultaneously.

광중합 개시제인 벤조인 메틸 에테르에 아크릴산 에틸을 부가반응시키고, 다음에 에스테르기를 가수분해시켜 새로운 강개시제 α-(2-carboxyethyl)benzoin mathyl ether (BMEAA)를 합성하였다. 단분자인 BMEAA와 고분자에 축쇄로 결합시켜 만든 고분자형 BMEAA를 광개시제로 이용하여 자외선 광조사에 따른 광중합반응과 잔막수율법으로 광가교효율을 조사하였다. 메타크릴산 메틸과 메타크릴산 글리시딜이 1:1로 중합된 공중합체(GM 중합체)의 에폭시기에 각각 BMEAA와 아크릴산을 반응시켜 축쇄에 광개시제를 함유한 B중합체와 감광성의 아크릴로일기를 함유한 A중합체, 또한 BMEAA와 아크릴산을 동시에 결합시킨 AB 중합체를 합성하였다. 스티렌 모노머의 광중합에 대하여는 고분자형 광개시제인 B중합체가 단분자 광개시제인 BMEAA보다 광중합 효율이 낮았다. BMEAA와 아크릴로일기를 함께 함유한 광가교형 감광성고분자인 AB 중합체는 100% 잔막수율에 이르는 매우 높은 광가교효율을 나타내었다.
