Abstract
Permeabilities of N2, O2, CO2 and their mixture through α-helical poly-γ-benzyl-L-glutamate (PBLG) membrane were measured as functions of temperature and pressure. γ-Benzyl-L-glutamate N-carboxy anhydride (γBLG NCA) was polymerized homogeneously at 30℃ in dioxane using triethylamine as an initiator. The PBLG membranes used in this study were obtained by dissolving polymer in dioxane and casting onto a glass plate. The permeability coefficients of PBLG membrane were large, of the order of 10-7∼10 -8㎤, stp·㎝/㎠·sec·cmHg, and these values were almost same as permeabilities of silicone rubber membrane, and increased markedly with increasing temperature. The separation coefficients of gas mixtures consisting of N2- O2 and CO2-O2 were 70∼80% of theroretical values calculated from permeability coefficients of single gas.

α-helix 구조를 가진 poly-γ-benzyl-L-glutamate (PBLG)막의 N2, O2, CO2 및 이들의 혼합가스에 대한 투과계수와 확산계수 및 용해도계수를 측정하였다. γ-benzyl-L-glutamate N-carboxy anhydride (γBLG NCA)를 디옥산 중에서 트리에틸아민을 개시제로 균일계합성하여 PBLG를 합성하였다. 분리막은 디옥산용매에 녹인 폴리머용액을 유리판에 유연하여 만들었다. PBLG막의 투과계수는 10-7∼10-8㎤, stp·㎝/㎠·sec·cmHg로 상당히 큰 값을 가지고 있다. 이 값은 실리콘 고무막의 투과계수와 비슷한데 폴리에틸렌 등 올레핀계 고분자막보다 102배, Nylon6나 Saran 등 보다는 104배정도 크다. N2-O2 및 CO2-O2등 혼합가스의 분리계수는 2 및 5 정도이며 이론분리계수비의 70∼80%에 해당한다.
