Abstract
Photodegradable master batch was prepared by using mechanical and thermal oxidation process. Three different master batchs were prepared by melt blending under nitrogen, air and oxygen environments. Low density polyethylene (LDPE) sheets containing 20 wt.% photodegradable M/Bs were prepared by compression molding and the photodegradation was observed under a mercury-vapor lamp. The sheet containing M/B prepared under oxygen atmosphere retained only 5% of its initial elongation at break after 120hr irradiation, while M/B free LDPE sheet still retained about 75% of initial value after 240hr irradiation.
