Abstract
The present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of low molecular weight inorganic additives(electrolytes) contained in precipitant on membrane performance. The system studied was polysulfone(13 wt%)/ dimethylformamide / water(or water+additive) and additives employed were NaCl, NaOH, KCI, LiCl. CaCl2, etc. Asymmetric ultrafiltration membranes were manufactured from the immersion precipitation method by varying types and amounts of additives and tests on the structures and performances of the resultant membranes were made by measuring water content, porosity, membrane thickness, pure water flux, dextran rejection (available only for NaCl), and SEM photographs. In addition, experiments on solvent outflow time and cloud point (phase separation) were carried out for elucidation of membrane formation mechanism. For the effective discussion of the "additive"effect, we divided the additive concentration range into three regions ( low concentration, 03) and analyzed the experimental data in each ragion by taking account of the specific nature(e.g., the "salting-out" effect) of salt, decrease in water activity, increase in density difference between cast solvent and precipitant, variation in viscosity and mutual miscibility of liquids, etc, resulting from the presence of additives, which affect equilibrium thermodynamics and kinetic aspect during membrane formation process.

첨가제에 포함된 저분자량의 무기 첨가제(전해질)가 막성능에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위해 본 연구를 수행하였다. 연구된 계는 polysulfone(13 wt%) / dimethylformamide / water or(water additive)이고, 사용된 첨가제는 NaCl, LiCl, KCl, NaOH, CaCl2 등이다. 첨가제의 종류와 양을 달리하여 침지침전법에 의하여 비대칭 polysulfone 한외여과막을 제조하였고, 이들 막의 구조 및 성능을 조사하기 위하여 함수율, 다공도, 막두께, 순소물 투과, dextran 배재율(NaCl의 경우만), 및 전자현미경, 광학현미경 사진등을 측정하였다. 또한 막형성기구를 조사하기위하여 용매유출 및 탁도(상 분리) 실험을 행하였다. 첨가제 영향을 효과적으로 조사하기 위해 첨가제의 농도를 저농도(03)의 세부분으로 나누어 실험하였다. 침전제에 첨가제를 사용하여 만들어진 실험 data를 분석함에 있어서는, 막형성 과정에 대한 평형열역학 및 동역학에 영향을 주는 각종 인자, 즉, 염의 특성(염석효과 등), 물의 활동도 감소, casting 용액과 침전제 사이의 밀도차 증가, 액체 성분의 점도와 상용성 변화 등을 고려하여 각 농도 구간별로 논하였다.
