Abstract
The graft copolymerization of acrylonitrile(AN) and 2-vinylnaphthalene(2-VN) onto ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer(EPDM) was carried out with benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as an initiator in several solvent systems at 60℃. The synthesized graft copolymer, AN-EPDM-2-VN(AEV), was separated from polymeric mixture by the extraction in the order of n-hexane, dimethylformamide(DMF) and acetone. AEV was identified by IR spectroscopy. The effects of solvents, mole ratio of 2-VN to AN and reaction time on graft copolymerization were examined. It was observed that the grafting efficiency increased as decreasing mole ratio of 2-VN to AN. The maximum grafting efficiency was obtained when tetrahydrofuran(THF) was used as the solvent. Decomposition temperatures of AEV and ABS were 417℃ and 370℃, respectively. The thermal stability of AEV was higher than that of ABS.

여러가지 용매 존재하에서 benzoyl peroxide(BPO)를 개시제로 사용하여 ethylene-propylene-diane terpolymer(EPDM)에 acrylonitrile(AN)과 2-vinylnaphthalene(2-VN)을 60℃에서 그라프트 공중합하였다. 합성한 그라프트 공중합체인, AN-EPDM-2-VN(AEV)는 생성계에 있는 중합물을 methanol에 침전시켜 분리하고 건조한 다음 n-hexane, DMF 그리로 아세톤 순으로 추출하여 분리하였다. 각 단계에서 분리된 중합체의 구조를 IR분광법으로 확인하였다. 그라프트 공중합에 대한 용매, AN에 대한 2-VN의 몰비, 그리고 중합시간등의 영항을 조사하였다. 그라프트효율은 AN에 대한 2-VN의 몰비가 감소함에 따라 증가하였으며 tetrahydrofuran (THF)을 용매로 사용하였을 때 최대 그라프트 효율이 얻어졌다. AEV의열분해 온도는 417℃이었고 ABS의 열분해온도는 370℃였다. AEV의 열분해 온도는 ABS보다 47℃증가하였다.
