A poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) macromer with two hydroxyl groups at one chain end and capable of participating in the polyurethane reaction was synthesized. This PEG macromer was used to prepare waterborne polyurethanes (WPU) with PEG side chains for waterproof breathable coatings. The effect of this PEG macromer on water vapor permeability, water resistance, thermal, mechanical, and physical properties of the WPU was evaluated. In addition, a change in properties was investigated by substituting a part of ethylenediamine used as a chain extender with dimethylol propanoic acid, which is hydrophilic and can be crosslinked by reacting with a melamine type crosslinking agent. Further, in order to improve the soft touch of the WPU, 4,4-methylenebis(isocyanatocyclohexane), which is a diisocyanate component, was replaced by m-tetramethylxylylene diisocyanate, and the changes of properties were investigated.
Poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) 사슬 말단에 두 개의 히드록실기를 가져 폴리우레탄 반응에 참여할 수 있는 PEG macromer를 합성하고, 이를 사용하여 PEG 곁사슬이 부착된 투습 방수 코팅용 수분산 폴리우레탄을 제조하고 평가 하였다. 즉, poly(tetramethylene glycol) 세그먼트 중 일부를 PEG macromer로 교체하여 투습도와 방수능의 변화, 그리고 열적, 기계적, 물리적 성질의 변화를 조사하였다. 그리고 사슬연장제로 사용된 에틸렌디아민의 일부를 친수성을 가지면서 멜라민계 후가교제와 반응하여 가교를 형성할 수 있는 디메틸올프로판산으로 대체함에 따른 물성의 변화도 조사하였다. 또한 수분산 폴리우레탄에 연한 촉감을 부여하기 위하여, 디이소시아네이트 성분인 4,4-methylene bis(isocyanatocyclohexane) 중 일부를 m-tetramethylxylylene diisocyanate로 교체하는 경우 수반되는 여러 가지 물성의 변화도 조사하였다.
