Polymer-supported acid chromate was applied in the synthesis of phthalaldehydes from xylene substituents. This synthetic method was useful and convenient as excess and unreacted reactants could be easily removed from the final reaction mixture, and also purification process was simplified While p- and m-xylene substituents were converted to the corresponding phthalaldehydes in good yield, o-xylene was not converted to o-phthalaldehyde but to phthallide.
