Abstract
Polymer blends consisted of polyurethan (PU) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) were prepared and then the dependences of their physical properties and platelet adhesion upon the mixing ratio were characterized. The water absorbency of the polymer blends increased and their water contact angles decreased with the increase in the amount of PVA in the polymer bblends. The tensile strength and elongation of the polymer blends were deteriorated by the increase of PVA amount. According to the observation of the fractured surfaces, the miscibility of PU and PVA was not good presumable due to the large difference of surface tension between them. The amounts of hydroxyl groups exposed on the surfaces of the polymer blends increased hyperbloically with the increase in the amount of PVA in them. According to the results ofexperiments of platelet adhesion. platelets were less adhered on the polymer blends with 10-50 wt% PVA and the morphological change of the platelets adhered on them was less, comparing to PU, PVA, and the other polymer blends. It may be correlated with the amount of PVA molecules exposed on the surfaces.
