Abstract
Modified polyetherimide was applied for the improvement of the fracture toughness and mechanical property of EPON HPT 1071 recently developed by Shell Chemical Company. In HPT 1071/DDS/mPEI system, the number and size of dispersed phase within cured epoxy resin were gradually decreased with the increase of the treatment time of polyetherimide. As the content of modified polyetherimide was increased up to 10 wt%, the mechanical property of cured epoxy resin was significantly increased compared with that of the unmodified polyetherimide system. The relationship between the morphology and the mechanical properties of modified epoxy resin was also discussed.
